NBA Update (Round 1):

  • Same result for the new look Clippers, who forgot to put on their ruby slippers when playing the role of massive underdog. It’s not clear what exactly was Doc’s plan on either offense or defense, as the Warriors spend most of the game chuck in completely open looks, and LA’s attack in the half court look completely out of whack (no ball movement and lots of one-on-one followed by three point jacks). If Rivers can’t come up with anything more original than that, this won’t be worth watching (even on Sports Center). #Clippers #Warriors
  • Orlando calmly invades Scotiabank Arena, cranks up the pressure, and traps a Raptors team that never knew what hit ’em; this series just got pretty serious for a No. 2 seed that probably was looking ahead to their next opponent. #Magic #Raptors
  • Brooklyn shocks the world with a convincing take down of the favored Sixers, executing with near flawless precision on offense, particularly in the half court set, and frustrating the bellyaching home team all day on the offensive end. Embiid is still hobbled, and was clearly not ready to carry his team on his back; as for Jimmy Butler, he definitely came to play, but where were Reddick and Simmons? Ben has still not developed even a mid-range jump shot to go with his skills around the basket, and until he does, opponents will simply force him to his weakness. And as for Coach Brown, there was no evidence of a reasonable game plan or, god forbid, in-game adjustments. For these reasons, the Sixers cannot be taken seriously as a threat to got the finals… not to mention the cloud of uncertainty raised as to their surviving Round 1. #Nets #Sixers
  • DeRozan leads a no-nonsense Spurs squad into Denver, where they let the Nuggets shoot themselves endlessly in foot, if not from the @#$#@$ing three point line.  As a fan of this team’s gutsy, spirited play all year, it was a real downer watching Denver clank three after three, and walk off dejectedly after fumbling opportunities in the waning moments.  Jokic has to start taking more shots, and there has to be more discipline when it comes to shot selection. #Nuggets #Spurs
