What do my NFL picks have in common with the Mets? They both love to lose, but somehow they are still above .500 in September. Here is what I have for the Week 3 slate in my quest to climb the leaderboard.
Dolphins at Bills -12.5
This was such a square pick. It was destined to lose. The Dolphins were not going to be lifeless forever and they would have been even closer to pulling off the upset if not for the horrible roughing the kicker penalty and Tua Tagovailoa’s untimely interception.
Packers -7.5 at Browns
This is also a square pick, but it will win because the Browns are worse than the Dolphins.
Colts at Titans +3.5
I am selling my Colts stock while starting their defense in fantasy football. Hopefully this one is extra sloppy.
Bengals +2.5 at Vikings
I’m very confident in Jake Browning outdueling Carson Wentz in a backup quarterback battle. That just means that Browning will mess up less than Wentz will. Cincinnati has a decent shot at the Playoffs with a win, and I don’t think they’re missing this chance.
Steelers at Patriots -1.5
This pick looks even better after Miami hung with Buffalo on Thursday night. That doesn’t mean it will work out, but it’s hard to get over how well Justin Fields played against Pittsburgh compared to his game against Buffalo.
Rams +3.5 at Eagles
Jalen Hurts has thrown for 253 yards over two games. Obviously, the Eagles can still win with those numbers, but can they win big? I’m thinking no.
Jets +6.5 at Buccaneers
Tyrod Taylor will get the Jets’ offense humming again after last week’s disaster. The Buccaneers have so far only beaten a couple of mediocre teams by the skin of their teeth.
Raiders at Commanders -2.5
I’ll happily take a discount with Jayden Daniels out of the lineup. Marcus Mariota is competent and the Raiders might not be.
Falcons at Panthers +5.5
Carolina was just plucky enough last week to make me choose it as a home underdog despite Atlanta’s success on the road last week.
Texans +1.5 at Jaguars
I’m not a Jacksonville believer. They are going to have to beat someone significant before I can pick them over a desperate Houston squad.
Broncos at Chargers -2.5
Too square or easiest pick of the week? I will keep riding the Bolts with numbers like these.
Saints at Seahawks -7.5
I still don’t believe that Seattle is any good, but you have to lay a big number with the Saints coming out of the dome for the first time this season.
Cowboys at Bears -1.5
I thought Vegas would have more respect for the Cowboys. This line tells me that some smart people think that Caleb Williams can carve up the Dallas defense just like Mr. Unlimited did last week.
Cardinals at 49ers -1.5
I continue to believe that the 49ers are in a bounce-back year. Even with Mac Jones under center, this is a very small number for a home date with Arizona.
Chiefs at Giants +5.5
My boys should have an easier time on defense this week with how the Chiefs are banged up. I think this one will be low-scoring and ugly.
Lions +5.5 at Ravens
This is a shootout and somebody will win by three or four. Taking the points is an easy call.
